Our baskets are made using a technique similar to that used by Native Americans in the United States. The technology of the continuously changing basket - making has been cultivated for thousands of years in the village cultures in Africa, North America and in the Indus Valley region in Pakistan. Do you remember the snake in the bobbin basket? Similarities in designs and motifs appear in different cultures because folk art travels as much as people. Over time, cultures are inspired by each other. This happens in both directions and represents a natural development of art. If this does not happen, art dies. Most of our designs therefore represent a fusion of elements that come from traditional South Asian, African and Indian designs.

Dhurries are ancient flatly-weaved rugs having originated in this Part of the world since ancient times. These have strong, tightly - woven and rustic weaves with no pile or backing , making them not reversible. The hand - spun yarn used to make the rugs is hand - dyed with natural pigment producing long-lasting and vibrant colour’s. The ancient craft of weaving durries on wooden handlooms is time-consuming effort ; yet , effective in bringing a textured strength to the yarn. The artisans use panjas - a wooden tool with iron fingers like extensions of their own hands, tapping each coloured thread into place to create a beautiful durable textile. Dhurrie Weaving has traditionally been a ‘village industry’ in Pakistan and is considered a major life source to many villagers, providing income, occupation and creativity. Usually , it is a family work engaging hard labour and consistency.
