In simple terms, a Kilim Rug is a rug without pile. It is a Flat-Woven Rug in which the weft threads form the pattern and the colours. Kilim Rugs are handwoven, whilst Pile Rugs are hand-knotted. When compared with hand-knotted rugs, Kilims are great value for money as the weaving time is considerably shorter. Interestingly Kilim Rugs can be woven with many different techniques. Often the technique used (and thus the pattern created) is specific to the place or weavers that made the rug. Kilims are versatile: they look well in both contemporary and traditional settings.

Additional Information

The wonderful jolly colours show very gentle and delicate variations of shade. This Afghan Kilim consists of wool and is a handmade flat-weave, i.e. a rug without pile. The weft coloured weft threads are woven in blocks which creates the pattern. One of the many benefits of this type of kilim is that because of the way it is constructed it is the same on both sides, meaning that it can be used either way up. MATERIALS USED
