Rainbow baskets are made in a different way than other types of palm leaf products. Their production is more laborious and complicated: first a simple spiral basket (coil basket) is made, then it is covered with overlapping rows of outer layers of braids, creating different patterns. These baskets are made in the Saraiki district in South Punjab, hence the name Saraiki Baskets. These baskets owe their name to their exceptionally vivid colours, which overlap in streaks or zigzags.
