These hand-woven jug-shaped baskets, as the name suggests, resemble ceramic vases in appearance. The shapes and sizes of these products vary – some are taller and slimmer, while others are rounder and stubby. On average, between 3,000 and 10,000 hand-woven braids are needed to make such large jugs, which takes an experienced craftsman about a week. This raises concerns that the art of basket-making will soon disappear as people move to other areas in search of better-paid and lighter work.
